Suppliers to the DoD are under mandate to comply with MIL-STD-129 and MIL-STD-130 for tracking items, cases and pallets throughout the defense contractor supply chain.
Each standard outlines specific labeling requirements for identification at the unit level, box or case level, shipping container, pallet or all of these. Managing the data can be time-consuming and costly.
If you or your customers are required to comply, ensure your labels pass DCMA inspection and tough deadlines with our products and services:
MIL-STD-130 is a mandate that requires suppliers of goods to the Department of Defense (DoD) to identify items for tracking & efficiency purposes. An added requirement for a Unique Identification Number (UID) may be called out in DFARS 252.211-7003 (Item Identification and Valuation) clause found in the original contract.
Qualifying items include:
Each qualifying item must be marked with a permanent 2-dimensional data matrix encoded with the CAGE Code, Serial Number, Part Number and other data elements necessary to construct a Unique Item Identifier (UII). The UID identification must last the expected life of the product or until it comes back to be refurbished.
Our staff is well-versed on the labeling requirements of MIL-STD-130. We offer a full-range of UID compliance products and services that have been designed specifically to meet DFARS requirements.
Pre-Printed Service: Using our Preprinted Label Service is a fast, easy way to get in compliance with MIL-STD-130 and UID requirements. Our printing service is available to match your contract specification for Construct 1 or Construct 2. Simply provide some basic information as cage, part and serial numbers. Each label is printed and verified. A verification report for each label acts as the Certificate of Compliance for hassle-free compliance.
Durable Label Materials: MIL-STD-130 requires labels to last the expected life of the product even under the harshest environments of water, sand, salt-spray, grease, high temperatures, abrasion, sunlight, chemical exposure, and other elements. Our full line of durable label materials and matching ribbons will ensure label performance.
Thermal Transfer Printing Systems: For larger volume, or frequent requests for UID labels, our complete printing systems include high-resolution thermal transfer printers, durable labels, label design software with preset templates, scanners, mobile workstations and verifiers to help avoid unnecessary delays at a DCMA inspection.
Direct Part Marking: Innovative laser systems are ideal for marking UID barcodes and other data onto a wide variety of product types. Choose from laser types to match your marking requirements.
UID Verification: Suppliers to the Department of Defense must be able to prove that their labels meet the requirements of MIL-STD-130, with regard to both Data Matrix Code quality and data accuracy. The UID Compliance Verifier is simple to use and provides a quick pass/fail check. In addition, it logs and archives the information to support audit needs. A printable compliance report is also produced. Read more on Labeling News.
UID Registry Data Submission: The UID registry is a software system created by the Department of Defense that acts as a repository for information on all items that meet UID criteria. In order to comply with the DoD mandate for UID, you must submit all UID information to the UID registry directly or via the WAWF. » WAWF, UID Registry

MIL-STD-129 is a mandate under the Department of Defense (DoD) which requires suppliers of goods to identify cartons, cases and pallets. Radio Frequency (RFID) may be called out in a DFARS clause 252.211-7006 found in the original contract.
Knowing what information to print on the label, how (what format, bar code symbology), if you need to encode information, variable or sequential information and where the tag is to be placed are part of meeting the requirements for MIL-STD-129 compliance.
Choose from our full-range of RFID products and services designed specifically to meet and exceed military labeling compliance.
Pre-Printed/Pre-encoded Label Service: Use our fast, easy way to get in compliance with MIL-STD-129 and RFID requirements without having to invest in special equipment. Each lot is printed, encoded, tested and verified, and comes with a Certificate of Compliance for 100% compliance.
Thermal Transfer Printing Systems: For larger volume, or frequent requests for RFID labels, choose from a line-up of complete printing systems including RFID printers (or modular units for future RFID upgrades) thermal transfer printers, RFID labels, label design software with preset templates, and RFID Readers to help avoid unnecessary delays at a DCMA inspection.
Traveler Form Labels: Simplify data entry and ensure accuracy of information transmitted via WAWF with duplicate Traveler labels. The bottom portion of the label is encoded with the necessary information and is affixed to the carton or case. The top is perforated, barcoded with the same information and attached to the Traveler Form. The user scans this portion when data is sent via WAWF without having to be at the shipment container.
WAWF Data Submission: Submitting shipments through the WAWF web site can be done without additional software but can come at a cost. Entering large quantities of UID and especially RFID data into the web site can quickly become unmanageable with excessive wait times on slow servers and the risk of user errors can make submissions difficult.

UID Registry Data Submission:
The Wide Area Workflow is an essential communication tool for every business that supplies inventory to the DoD. Submission to WAWF replaces the manual DD250 document. It helps expedite payments and is now required by the DoD.
The Wide Area Workflow system can now accept UID data along with receiving reports and combo (2-N-1) documents. The wide area workflow system will then forward on all UID data to the UID registry.
Suppliers can submit their shipments to the WAWF through the WAWF website or direct electronic submission. Each of the these methods has its own advantages and disadvantages.
Communication via AIA Standards:
Subcontractors can now relate UID to RFID data, send product and shipment data to their customer who can then submit the data electronically to the WAWF registry.
Data Submission Through WAWF Website:
The WAWF Website offers graphical interface to submit product and shipment data without any additional software to generate the electronic documents and submit them by entering each submission by hand.
idWorx! Direct Electronic Submission:
Entering UID and especially RFID data into the website can include large amounts of data quickly. This can mean wait times that make submission of shipments difficult and almost assured user errors. idWorx! uses direct electronic submission for fast and easy submission.
