Security Labels for Fragrance Packager
PREVIOUS PROCESS:
A national distribution center for imported perfumes required a security tag, in addition to a UPC bar code, to be applied to some of their products.
The company was already applying a UPC bar code label to each perfume box from a loose loop system consisting of a Zebra 90xi and a label printer applicator. Security tags, when required, had to be hand applied.
The company wanted to reduce the labor required for the special production runs while increasing the speed of their entire production process.
ID TECHNOLOGY PROPOSAL OR SOLUTION:
ID Technology proposed using a Label Printer Applicator capable of printing the UPC bar code directly onto the security label, then automatically applying the label to the product. When no stock security tag is necessary, the label printer applicator can print and apply a paper barcode label onto the product.
A conveyor with a customized side belt for product placement and stability was added to keep the items in proper position during the labeling process.
COST SAVINGS/PRODUCTIVITY GAINS:
One labeling system met their needs for both UPC bar codes and security tags. They were able to eliminate the two-label process for security labels. The ribbon and label waste of a loose loop system was also eliminated.
A fully automated label printer applicator system reduced labor cost and improved efficiency. This system resulted in a 137% return on investment.
