Membership Warehouse Improves Efficiency with High Resolution Marking System

PREVIOUS PROCESS:

An international chain of membership warehouses needed to print high quality alphanumerics and barcodes on four sides of 40 lb. club-pack trays.

The company's previous process began with bags of candy and trail mixes being filled by a vertical form fill and seal machine (V/F/F/S). After filling, the bag exited the bagger onto a separate conveyor and traveled through a metal detector. Following the metal detector, the bags were deposited onto a turntable. From there operators packed the bags into large corrugate trays and manually fed these trays onto a conveyor to be coded by Marsh Patrion Plus printers.

ID TECHNOLOGY PROPOSAL OR SOLUTION:

ID Technology installed a FoxJet ProSeries high resolution inkjet printing system featuring four ProSeries 384 printheads, a Marksman Pro controller and a custom conveyor to accurately turn the 40 lb. trays 90 degrees.

As the club-pack trays are loaded onto the ID Technology designed conveyor the first pair of ProSeries printheads code two sides of the tray. Bump and turn wheels then turn the trays 90 degrees. After the tray is turned and moves down the conveyor, the second pair of ProSeries printheads prints on the remaining two sides of the tray.

COST SAVINGS/PRODUCTIVITY GAINS:

Because the system designed and installed by ID Technology was easier to use and the print quality was better, the company has realized an increase in efficiency over their previous inkjet system.

The customer chose the ProSeries system over the Markem inkjet printers because the ProSeries bar codes did not scratch off of the trays as the Markem bar codes did. In addition, the IDT system has a relatively small footprint. This was important since the customer was short on space until they move at the end of this year.

This customer is already planning to purchase two more ProSeries high resolution inkjet printing systems like this one.
