Dry Goods Manufacturer Improves Efficiency with IDT Overprinter
PREVIOUS PROCESS:
A producer of powdered milk, instant drink mixes, oatmeal, cocoa products and other dry foods needed to replace their old Thermal Transfer Overprinters. They had been using Norwood Jaguar 106i Overprinters to print ingredients, mixing instructions, nutritional information, barcode, date code, and shift information on the web of film being fed to a Form/Fill/Seal (F/F/S) machine.
The manufacturer was experiencing significant downtime as the Jaguar printers were down and offline at least every two weeks. In addition they wanted a larger print area than the 106i could provide.
ID TECHNOLOGY PROPOSAL OR SOLUTION:
This dry foods producer has multiple vertical F/F/S machines and one horizontal F/F/S machine to package the various powdered ingredients once they leave the mixing bowls.
ID Technology installed an IM5 Thermal Transfer Overprinter and Harsh Environment Unicontroller on one of the vertical F/F/S machines. The IM5 Thermal Transfer Overprinter is equipped with a positive air pressure kit for the dusty environment, reducing wear and tear on the printhead.
SELECTION PROCESS:
Videojet and Markem equipment was also considered, but after an onsite evaluation, the end user decided the ID Technology IM5 was more reliable and provided more options than the Jaguar 106i. The IM5 printhead provided a 5" wide print area compared to the 4.17" wide limitation of the Jaguar 106i. ID Technology also provided the customer with a performance guarantee.
The customer is happy with the ID Technology IM5 thermal transfer overprinter and will be installing two additional IM5s, replacing Jaguar 106i printers on two other lines later this year.
COST SAVINGS/PRODUCTIVITY GAINS:
With the new, more reliable ID Technology thermal transfer overprinter, the customer has experienced increased efficiency and less downtime than with the Jaguar printer.
